Daxos of Meletis EDH Deck – Mono White Azorius

Daxos of Meletis EDH Deck

It turns out that you can have a mono-white Azorius () deck. What the? Huh? You can’t have a Mono White Azorius Deck! I know, I know. The deck title is an oxymoron, but now that I have your attention, let me introduce you to an equipment and White heavy Daxos of Meletis Commander deck. This deck was built for and piloted by my now 11 year old nephew, Michael. I built Michael a mono white deck in 2012 and we have cycled through both Odric, Master Tactician and Kemba, Kha Regent as General of this equipment heavy theme. It is now time for my nephew to learn how to play a dual color deck. Since we are somewhat on a budget, we had the issue of how to convert most of the “good cards” from his Kemba deck into something new for him. Perusing my binder, we came across Daxos of Meletis and went to work.

By switching the General of this deck to Daxos, and by simply adding a “splash of Blue”, Michael was able to keep most of his mono white good stuff and his more expensive cards (ie: Stoneforge Mystic, Serra Ascendant) in his deck. Another great feature with the small amount of Blue in this deck is the fact that a couple of my nephew’s favorite cards like Caged Sun and Crackdown don’t lose their potency.

Strategy for Daxos Equipment Commander Deck

Most of the equipment and auras in this Daxos of Meletis EDH Deck is based around making our General unblockable or giving him evasion. After a few games, Michael is learning that it is best to get Daxos on the board, protect him with some equipment, and commence the strategy of ripping cards off of the top of opponents libraries. To keep Daxos from swinging blind we have included a small package of tools such as Lantern of Insight and Wand of Denial to take a sneak peak at the top card of an opponent’s library. There are also a handful of spells such as Memory Lapse and Spin Into Myth to get rid of troublesome spells or permanents by exiling them with Daxos and possibly even casting these troublesome pieces ourselves.

Below is the current decklist for Daxos. Michael and I would love to hear your stories or ideas for Daxos so please comment below. Do keep in mind, however, that we are on a budget with this deck and we are trying to stay with the core group of cards we already have. Another deck building blueprint we are trying to follow is staying away from any spell with more than one Blue mana symbol and anything that will disrupt the flow of Crackdown or Caged Sun, at least until we improve his mana base. That being said, we will be adding 1 or 2 new cards every month to continue improving on this deck. Please check back monthly for updates on this Daxos of Meletis EDH Deck!

While it might be expensive, Umezawa’s Jitte might be a good addition.

I couldn’t agree more. That would be a great addition! That may have to be a birthday present for my nephew!

So are you supposed to win through command damage or by taking the opponents creatures

Michael’s best games with this deck was using some control and equipping some of the bigger creatures. Nabbing an opponent’s cards here and there helped a bit too. His favorite card was staying alive with Worship while still being able to swing in for some damage.

Unfortunately, Michael has been playing Yugioh, so this deck has been on the shelf for a couple years now. I am hoping he will get back into Magic here soon and we can give this deck an update. :)
